About the Pettit National Ice Center
Olympic speed skaters have trained in Wisconsin for over 40 years. The Wisconsin Olympic Ice Rink was the nations first artificially refrigerated 400 - meter outdoor oval rink, built in 1966 at the State Fair Park. As the rink deteriorated with time, a new center needed to be built. Planning for the new center began in the 1980's and on December 31, 1992, the Pettit National Ice Center was finished. The center was funded with donations from Jane & Lloyd Pettit, private sources and the State of Wisconsin. The center was completed in time for Olympians Bonnie Blair, Dan Jansen and the US Team to train for the 1994 Olympics.

The Pettit features a 400 meter speed skating oval which encircles two international size skating rinks, each 100 feet by 200 feet. There is also a 450 meter running track with 2 lanes that surrounds the speed skating rink. The center can seat 3,000 spectators and has a full-service Pro Shop offering skates, skating apparel, Olympic merchandise, and skate sharpening. A banquet facility located upstairs at the Pettit, known as The Hall of Fame Room can seat up to 200 guests, offers full catering services, and is available for public rental.

You can skate on the same track as Olympians! Every day, the Pettit National Ice Center is open for public ice skating. The center also offers lessons for all ages in figure skating, hockey and of course, speed skating. In addition to public skating and lessons, they also offer times for pick up hockey games.
