Learn how CyberKnife has Revolutionized Treatment of Tumors
New and advanced technology, CyberKnife, allows doctors to treat benign and malignant tumors with precision. While the name conjures up images of a scalpel, CyberKnife uses a computer and a robot to deliver radiation to even complex tumors nearly anywhere in the body with pinpoint
accuracy.
Neurosurgeon Thomas Wascher, MD, from the NeuroSpine Center of Wisconsin, will talk about and demonstrate this cutting-edge technology at a free presentation beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12, in the Ironwood Room at Appleton Medical Center. People can watch as a
high-resolution CT scan is used to determine where and how much radiation a robotic arm will deliver radiation while limiting exposure to healthy tissue nearby. The CyberKnife can be used on tumors and lesions that were previously diagnosed as inoperable and by those who have received their full dose of radiation from other treatments. Since there is no incision, it is less invasive, offers a shorter treatment time and has a lower risk of side effects. |
